This three-pound mass of pink matter sits at the center of all human skull, You need it to breathe, to have movement in your finger and toes, enjoy everyday activities and to tell you body how much you can take of something. For example, the brain administers your body’s behavior; permits you to be able to interpret and gives the capability to respond to everything that you go through.

Many know of addiction as a chronic illness that alters the structure of the brain . There are three main sections of the brain that are often associated with addiction. First, prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and midbrain.

The prefrontal cortex is responsible for all the executive functions in the brain such as your decision making process. The limbic system is the reward circuit of the brain this is responsible for remembering a lot of pleasant experiences. In brief, if you eat a cake the limbic system will tell you that it is okay to continue to eat more cake. The midbrain is responsible for all of our survival functions whether it is  our vision or hearing or even our fight or   In brief, neurons normally send and receive information and they have to be able to process that information in order to be able to understand it and use it to its full potential.  Marijuana and heroin are able to copy  the work of the neurotransmitter, the drug will make it seem like it is a neuron and the receptors believe and allow the drugs to become attached, allowing them to mimic the work of neurons. Although they mimicking the work of the neuron, it is not the same work. “Human beings are “wired” with nerve cells (neurons) that extend from the brain and spinal cord throughout the body.

Neurons with the same function group themselves into strands up to four feet long. However, the strands are not continuous. Between neurons is a small space called a synapse.

“Because it is not  a natural neurotransmitter it leads to anomalous messages that are being transmitted through the system.           When certain drugs are used they have the capability to send 10 times the amount of dopamine than required.  “Once in your brain, drugs interfere with your normal brain chemistry to produce the desired effect. Because the brain is so complex, and our understanding of its functioning is not complete, drugs all have side effects, as well.

The cough suppressant reduces your cough and also makes you drowsy. Every drug you take has more than one effect on you.”Abusing drugs or alcohol regularly can permanently rewire the brain.
