B) BACKGROUND 1.2 Different types of the alarming system are used in the cars with the motive of providing the security to the cars in the absence of the owners of the cars. Such alarming system provides the security to the cars, but the drawback of such alarming system was that the siren started for the false alarms such as the barking of dogs or the lightning on the sky.

Thus, the need for the accurate and reliable alarming system for the cars has increased these days. In the project, I have proposed the improved alarming system that compensated those drawbacks of the presently used alarming system. The proposed design of the car alarm system aimed at creating the innovative and reliable car security system with the use of alarming of the siren for the short duration. 1.3 The project aimed at designing the improved car alarm system for the security of the car. The major objectives of the project were as follows: .    i)  To create a convenient alarm system particularly for the cars.

?.    ii)  To improve the existing design to overcome the drawbacks of the extremely unpleasant ?sound and false alarms. ?.    iii)  To make the proposed car alarming system innovative that provides the protection and ?security of the cars with the alarm of the siren for a short period.

?1.4 The project was done as an academic group project with the collaboration of all the team members. There was also the timely supervision and direction of the project supervisor for the completion of the project. Every project member had their own responsibilities. The major responsibilities that I performed for the completion of the project were as follows: .

    i)  To collect the necessary information for the design specifications and the implementations through the referral of the previously done projects and the reference books. ?.    ii)  To draw the block diagram of the proposed alarm system with the depiction of all the necessary components. ?.

    iii)  To select the standard components for using in the design such as button module keypad, door sensors, vibration sensors and the wireless transmitter. ?.    iv)  To interface all the components with the microcontroller through the proper pin configuration.

?.    v)  To write the code for programming the microcontroller using C++ language. ?.    vi)  To simulate the designed circuit using Proteus and analysed the circuit. ?.

    vii)  To place all the sensors and components on the car and test the proposed alarm circuit. ?(ANZSCO code 233411 task 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8) C) PERSONAL ENGINEERING ACTIVITY 1.6 Initially, before starting the real designing task of the project, I did the literature review by studying some of the reference books from the library and extract the necessary information for the project. I also watched various videos on YouTube and other internet sites related to the design and implementation of the alarm systems. The accumulated information was organised using Microsoft Word and formulated the project schedule for the proper conduction of the project. I also made the initial estimation of the project with time and cost estimates. 1.7 To ease myself for the design of the real alarming system, I made the block diagram of the proposed alarm system with necessary components used for the project.

The overall block diagram of the alarm system is shown below: .                 Fig: Block diagram of the proposed alarm system (ANZSCO code 233411 task 1, 3) 1.8 Then, for powering the alarm system, I used the standard 9V lithium batteries. The most of the components used in the project required 5 V supply. I used an LM7805 voltage regulator to step down the used 9 V Dc voltage to required 5V. 1.9 For the designing of the button module, I opted for using the basic external keypad as it was cheap and simple to use.

The used button module had an output for each button. Thus, with the use of proper pin configuration of the microcontroller, I provided the required output. Then, for the design of the window sensor, among the various options available, I opted to design the windows vibration sensor that included the vibration sensor and microphone as well. With the support of a microcontroller, when the vibration sensor triggered, the microphone read a sound at the correct frequency. I used multiple vibration sensors for the project to install on each of the car’s window. For the door sensor of the proposed system, I used the existing door sensors that were used for the headlamps.

(ANZSCO code 233411 task 1, 3) 1.10 After that, for the design of the wireless transmitter, I used a simple radio frequency transmitter and receiver because of its simple configuration. Similarly, for the alarm noise design, I used the car horn, but the microcontroller resets every time whenever the horn alarmed. Thus, due to the time constraints and complexity, I used an external electric siren which was simple to use and easy for interfacing with the microcontroller. (ANZSCO code 233411 task 1) 1.

11 Then, I interfaced the selected components with the microcontroller with proper pin configuration. I connected the Vdd to pin 1 and set it to Vhigh of the microcontroller inputs. I configured the microcontroller by setting the Vcc in between 2.5 V to 5V. I used a Sallen key Bandpass filter to capture the signal only within the frequency of the breaking glass. The centre frequency was 8 KHz, and the corner frequencies were 7.

5 KHz and 8.5 KHz. I made the configuration in such a way that any input from the microphone was noticed by the microcontroller. I placed two door sensors on each of the doors of the car. They were set in such a way that when the doors of the cars were opened by anyone, the door sensors’ output was grounded. The designed circuit using an LM7805 voltage regulator for stepping down the voltage for the project is shown below: Fig: 9v to 5V voltage regulator circuit (ANZSCO code 233411 task 1, 3, 6) 1.12 Then, I installed the vibration windows sensor on each of the rubber seal present in each window of the car. For the configuration of the wireless transmitter, I connected both Vcc connection to +5 V of the battery and the output to the used microcontroller’s input terminal.

I tested the remote of the transmitter with the use of LEDs for the switching between the states. (ANZSCO code 233411 task 4) 1.13 For the programming of the microcontroller, I used C++ programming language. I wrote the codes for the alarm system testing, keypad driver and door sensor driver. After the completion of the coding phase, I performed the simulation of the circuit using Proteus on the PC. The success in the simulation led to the final assembling of the interfacing of the components to the microcontroller on the breadboard.

(ANZSCO code 233411 task 2, 8) 1.14 Initially, I used the car battery for powering the designed alarm system of the project. As the used car battery was not convenient for the project, I opted to use standard lithium batteries of nine volt capacity with the LM7805 voltage regulator that converted the used voltage into a required voltage of five volts. Similarly, for wireless transmitter and receiver, initially, two Bluetooth modules were used with the microcontroller.

There was difficulty in programming these devices which wasted my time. To overcome this, I used a simple radio transmitter which was easy for configuration. Likewise, for the alarm noise design, I used a car horn. There was a problem of microcontroller being reset whenever the horn beeped. Thus to solve this issue, I replaced a car horn with an external electric siren which was simple for configuration and interfacing with the microcontroller. (ANZSCO code 233411 task 5) 1.

15 In the project, I programmed the siren in such a way that the siren produced the alarm for the short duration with pleasant sound than the currently used siren alarms on the car alarming system. 1.16 This was an academic project which I completed in the limited time with the efforts of all the team members.

As a project leader, I gave the necessary direction to the teammates for the effective conduction of the project. During the project work, I faced various challenges and issues which I was unable to overcome. I discussed with my project supervisor about the challenges faced and the possible solutions to solve those challenges. Likewise, I prepared the progress report of the project and submitted to the supervisor on a weekly basis for the necessary review and feedbacks. I implemented the techniques of the project management throughout the project and completed the project as per the initially estimated cost and time.

1.17 I ensured that the project was completed as per the associated norms and ethics. I led my team with the team spirit and established a peaceful and workaholic environment while doing the project tasks. The project was completed as per the regulations of the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering and the university. All the components and the circuits were tested in the safe environment with the adoption of the necessary safety precautions. During the project, I followed the IEEE 802.15.

4 standard for the wireless sensor/control networks. D) SUMMARY 1.18 The project about the design of the improved alarm system for the car was completed with the achievement of the targeted result of the creation of the siren that alarmed for short duration with pleasant sound than the existing alarming system. The designed project is utilitarian in protecting the vehicles against window break-ins and the theft of the cars. The proposed project is environment-friendly as the siren is programmed in such a way that it is blown for short duration of time than the existing alarm models. Overall, the designed car alarm system can be used as a security system for the protection against window breaks, thefts of the car and the door openings with the use of wireless transmitters.
